We have hot water today!!
Prior Problem
There is currently a class action lawsuit about the lack of hot water. The law suit states that there was no hot water (straight cold water through the pipes) for 15 days. This building is supposed to supply hot water. By my definition Hot Water is 120f. This water in this building has not been over 105f for 4 months. So none of dishwashers clean properly nor is there such thing as a hot soaking bath. This seems to have no end in site.
July 9, 2003
There is a sad news flash today. The owners have decided to dismiss the manager of Byron Hall J. W. (I will not give his name for privacy reasons). This man held the building together and was the only person who seemed to care for the residents. I do not know the reason for his dismissal but I do know that without him the problems with the building seem worse now than before. The only reason that he was not more effective is because the building condition continues to decline and the rent continues to go up. Nothing is getting repaired because the vendors will not come fix the building because they do not get paid for their work.
There is still only one fully working elevator. The freight elevator works but will sometimes skip the floor you are headed too and will stop for a few minutes at a time. The air conditioning in the hallways still does not work. The pool though open looks like a cheap patch job around it. So in short nothing has changed except we have lost the only advocate that us as residents have had.
Trash Collection
The building owners didnt pay for trash collection, so the collection was suspended and the trash built up over a week. This caused a build up of trash that the city forced them to move. The stench from this smell was so strong that the office was closed.
Swimming Pool The Pool IS NOW OPEN!!
This was prior to July 3, 2003 -
We still cannot use the swimming pool that has been closed since March of this year. The pool was closed by the Health Department. The sign had been removed and was only reposted 3 weeks ago. Management did not tell any one not to use the pool.
Air Conditioning
We still have no air conditioning in the hallway. This has made for some nice bug and mold that has infested this building.
Elevator
Only one of the elevators are not working as of July 3, 2003.
These comments were made prior to July 3, 2003. -
We have only one working elevator out of the three available. The freight elevator has been broken for two days. The other main elevator has only been broken for 9 days at this time. So the common wait time is up to 15 minutes for the one elevator.
Night Security We only have security during day light hours. Night security has been non-existent since January this year.
Trash Disposal
You cannot throw the trash out after 6 pm. The trash rooms are closed and locked. This sounds minor until you have a dinner party of shrimp and want to get the smell out of your apartment. This was because some one was starting a fire in the trash rooms, instead of finding the cause problem the punished the other 170 apartments in the building.
Garage
This is a general comment concerning the garage. If it is working the day that you read this it is a matter of luck and not normality.
We have all been told to drive a single direction. The problem is that one garage door seems to always be broken. Therefore it is only a matter of time before some one has an accident. The management will also allow the garage doors to be stuck open for hours allowing any one to walk into to the private garage.
General Maintenance The management of the building has been dealing with the problems as best they can but at the same time, they are quick to blame the owners for not giving them the money to perform their duties. Many of these duties are paid for in people's salaries. This building is not well managed. There are several examples on this page.
Going Condo? There are constant rumors of the building going Condo. The reality of this is the plumbing should be replaced, the wiring is shot from all the flooding and the balconies need sealing. So if the place does go condo either the renovations have to be done by the developer or by special assessment.
